KDF Announces Countrywide Recruitment: How to Apply

KDF officers during a past operationThe Ministry of Defence has announced a massive recruitment drive for individuals interested in joining the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF). Individuals will be listed in both general and specialized categories of the KDF during the recruitment process, which will take place across the country.

The Ministry of Defence announced on Tuesday, October 26, that it was looking for General Service Officer Cadets (Graduate degree holders), Specialist Officers, General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen and women, and Defence Forces Constables.

"The general public is hereby notified that the recruitment exercise is scheduled to take place in the month of November 2021 and will take place across the country on specified dates,"

Minimum Academic Qualifications

General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets

A minimum mean grade of B (Plain) in KCSE is required, as well as C+ (Plus) in English, Mathematics, and one Science subject.

This category's training will last three years and will result in a BSc degree in Military Science and Security Studies upon completion.

Graduate Degree Holders General Service Officer (GSO) Cadet

To qualify as a GSO Cadet, you must meet the minimum requirements.

A degree in Agribusiness from a recognized University/Institution is required. A Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Information Management and Archiving, Records Management and Archiving, Library and Information Science, Education, or a related field is required. A Bachelor's degree in any of the following fields is required: education, engineering, environmental science, finance/business management, hospitality/catering/food production, information and communications technology (ICT), mass communication, music, or any other relevant course.

This category will have a twelve-month training period.

Specialist Officers 

GSO Cadets must meet the minimum requirements, with the exception of Chaplains/Imams, who must have a minimum mean grade of C+ (Plus) in KCSE.

A degree from a recognized university/institution is required, as is registration with a regulatory/statutory body in any of the relevant disciplines.

Specialist Officers will be trained for six months.

Certificate holders.

A minimum mean KCSE grade of D+ (Plus) and a relevant Certificate with Government Trade Test Grade II or Craft II from a recognized institution.

Technicians or artisans with National Youth Service (NYS) training who meet the above requirements are encouraged to apply.

Constables

You must be a retired Kenya Defence Forces or National Youth Serviceman/woman.

Be between the ages of 30 and 55 for retired KDF and between the ages of 35 and 45 for retired NYS.

Possess a Discharge Certificate with a minimum conduct rating of "Very Good."

Must have completed nine (9) years of Color Service and retired honorably from the KDF.

How to Apply

Applicants for the positions of Specialist Officer and Tradesmen/women are encouraged to apply online at applications.mod.go.ke.

The application deadline is November 14, and shortlisted candidates will be notified via print media between November 21 and November 27.

The Ministry informs the public that the KDF recruiting team will consist of the Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force, and Kenya Navy personnel who will visit the recruitment centers during the recruitment exercise.
