Fact Check:Reason Why Missing Security Expert Mbijiwe Left all Whatsapp Groups, No Trace of him Yet

News about former KDF soldier and celebrated security expert Mwenda Mbijiwe going missing was reported.

The ex-official, who vanished under unclear circumstances on Saturday, June 12, is yet to be found.

On Friday 15, four months later, rumors went viral that Mbijiwe had left all whatsapp groups raising more alarm of his whereabouts and who could still be holding him hostage.

However according to WhatsApp terms and conditions, any user who becomes inactive for more than three months, the social media app automatically removes them from groups.Whatsapp policy dictates that to maintain security, limit data retention, and protect the privacy of its users, WhatsApp accounts are generally deleted after 120 days of inactivity.

Inactivity on this case means that the user hasn’t connected to WhatsApp for those 120 days.

Some of those raised alarm about Mbijiwe leaving groups was Julius Mugambi, a political analyst from Meru county.

In a share screenshot, Mbijiwe had left all political forums from Meru county.

Another Twitter user identified as Syombus Osiany, a former classmate to Mbijiwe expressed their shock after he left University of Nairobi alumna group.

Mbijiwe's family through his sister Tamata told the media that they are yet to receive and communication from detectives investigating his disappearance.

Prior to his vanishing, the TV analyst was heading to Meru County, to visit a sick family member.
