Currently, in Africa, only two countries (Ethiopia and Liberia) hold the record of being the only countries that were never colonized. During the 18th Century, European powers rushed to take up their share of African goodies. To achieve this, they had to infiltrate and occupy regions while crushing any resistance they came across.
However, present-day Ethiopia continues to surprise many in history as it set a record by being the only African country that trashed a colonial power. In 1896, the Italian empire tried to extend its influence across the horn of Africa (Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, and Djibouti). However, their attempts to invade Ethiopia were thwarted.
It is reported that Ethiopian soldiers defeated the Italians at a place called Adwa despite not having any sophisticated weapons or capabilities. As a result of the war, great shame befell Italy as Ethiopia managed to remain Independent without any external disturbance or control.
