Turkana South sub-county is the target of an ongoing security operation aimed at eliminating bandits.
KDF and police forces successfully repelled armed bandits near the bridge in Kainuk town near the border of Turkana and West Pokot Counties, but the situation remains tense.
The criminals were successfully driven off into the neighbouring hills by the joint KDF-Police security officials from the nearby Rapid Deployment Unit camp.
After Wednesday's clash with police and military at Kainuk bridge, locals fear the bandits are regrouping in an attempt to retaliate for the loss of many of their number and the seizure of their weapons.
On Monday, as the security operation began in most counties in the volatile North Rift region, at least 19 citizens surrendered guns they had unlawfully acquired.
People in Turkana county turned in three of the illicit firearms.
Rift Valley regional commissioner Dr Abdi Hassan confirmed the attack, saying that at least two bandits had been apprehended in Kainuk.
A large number of security personnel were present in the Samburu county neighbourhoods of Suguta Mar Mar, Loosuk, Pura, and Malaso. To ensure the safety of all vehicles entering and leaving Samburu, police have set up checkpoints at Suguta Mar Mar.
