Laikipia county has been on news for many weeks due to banditry attacks. These attacks have led to nearly twelve people and three police officers losing their lives.
The Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Security headed by Fred Matiang'i initiated a thorough security operation especially in the Olmoran area in a bid to restore calmness. Since then stability has been returning and people have started their daily activities.
What is worrying is that almost a day ago the bandits attacked the area again. It is believed that these bandits managed to beat the security dragnet and went ahead to steal livestock in Kirima location.
National Police Service's statement revealed that the multi-agency was pursuing the suspects to try and recover the cattle. According to NPS, the government assured people in Laikipia that all those culprits disrupting peace will be brought to book.
First of all, how did they manage to do it in the presence of security officers? And how come the officers never realized? What should be known is that the area is full of thick bushes. The bandits know it very well than the police officers. That explains why they can manage to raid and run away without fear.
In my view, those people affected might decide to retaliate. This means banditry attacks might continue for a long time. Therefore the government needs to find better ways of ensuring peace in this area.
