It has been confirmed one of the 11 United States Marine Corps who were killed at Hamid Karzai International Airport, Kabul, Afghanistan on Thursday, August 26 was Corprol Hunter Lopez.
The youthful soldier according to sources from the U.S, is the son of Captain Herman Lopez and Deputy Alicia Lopez in Riverside County.
Sheriff Chad Bianco took to social media and confirmed that Hunter Lopez was among the 11 Marines killed in Afghanistan.
Earlier on, the U.S Marine had withheld the identifies of the 11 marines for what they said to be following the right procedures of doing it.
They said they were to alert their families first before their identities are shared with the public.
"I am unbelievably saddened and heartbroken for the Lopez family as they grieve over the loss of their American Hero.
"Hunter Lopez, son of our own Captain Herman Lopez and Deputy Alicia Lopez, tragically lost his life while serving our country in the United States Marine Corps," Sheriff Chad Bianco posted on Facebook.
Sheriff Chad Bianco also confirmed that Hunter Lopez had taken part in the Explorer Program before he joined the Military.
For starters, Explorer Program is where young Americans aged between 16 years and 20 years engage in an opportunity to explore their interests and aptitudes in the field of law enforcement through on-the-job exposure.
"He was killed in Kabul, Afghanistan on Thursday, August 26th. Before joining the Marine Corps, Hunter proudly served in our Sheriff’s Explorer Program.
"Our entire department is mourning this tragic loss. The Lopez family exemplifies the meaning of Service Above Self,"Sheriff Chad Bianco added.
