BREAKING NEWS: Sankuri-Kiunga road closed after an IED Exploded Prematurely

Two Al-Shabaab explosive experts were killed earlier today after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) they were trying to plant along Sankuri-Kiunga road in Lamu County went off prematurely.

According to reports, bomb experts drawn from the multi-agency security team have tentatively sealed off part of the road and deployed bomb detectors on road clearance operation.

The incident took place just a few meters from the exact place where Kenya police officer died while ten others were seriously injured after an IED attack on August 2018.

There has been relative calm in the area following a successful multi-agency operation in Boni forest codenamed Operation Amani Boni.

“A major operation is ongoing in the affacted area and the environs,” Lamu county commissioner Irungu Macharia has said.

Macharia added that officials are on high alert after receiving prior information from the members of the public about planned attacks in the areas by the terrorists.
