KDF Commandos Who've Been Training In Eldoret To Storm M23 Hideouts Today After End Of Ultimatum

After successful talks held in Angola on Wednesday last weeks, the M23 rebels who have wrecked havoc in eastern democratic republic of Congo were given up to yesterday evening to surrender in the session also attended by former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

As The Nation reports, KDF troops who have been training in Eldoret at Moi Barracks have now been mobilized to fly to DRC and storm the M23 rebel hideouts and smoke them out after the rebels failed to honour the ceasefire directive.

The soldiers who will be deployed today are scheduled to storm the Bunagana, Kiwanja and Rutshuru regions that are currently occupied by M23 rebels. The commandos will have a stop in Goma City before venturing in the rebel territories.

Their mission in DRC comes after close to 2,000 soldiers from the Kenya defence forces were deployed to Goma recently and their deployment comes after the rebels defied the ceasefire agreement.

“If the M23 do not withdraw the EAC Heads of States shall authorize the use of force to compel the group to comply,” an earlier statement that has now been acted upon warned.
