The world has witnessed the fall of some great and feared leaders in history among them being Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gadaffi.But how were the last moments and words of these once powerful leaders in their nations.With me are some brief accounts.
Saddam Hussein
He was the leader of Iraq from July 1979 and saw his power come to an end in March 2003.Saddam's tenure in office was largely termed as dictatorial having no space for any dissenting voice.This saw the intervention of the USA and her allies who ended up arresting him.He was charged and sentenced to death by hanging.During his trial,he mocked at the Western nations and those prosecuting him terming them as infidels and betrayers.
On the day of his execution,he was led to the gallows to be hanged.According to an eye witness named Mowaffak Al Rubaie,Saddam was composed and expressed no sign of fear.His last words before his death as reported by Mowaffak were a recitation of the Shahada which he ended up dying before he finished reciting."I testify that their is no god but God and Mohammed...,"stated Saddam before dying.
Muammar Gaddafi
The brother leader as he was commonly known led Libya into prosperity after he overthrew the dynasty.Years later,he came to be a foe of the Western nations precisely the USA who severally linked him to funding terrorism.Reports of human rights violation were also rampant in his tenure.In this regard,the USA and her NATO allies invaded the country which made Gaddafi a fugitive.
He was captured by rebels while in a tunnel wounded in both of his legs.Their are several accounts on his last words but most point to two phrases.According to India Today magazine, Gaddafi's last words were "Don't shoot me."The Guardian on the other side has it that his last words were "What did I do to you?"
