Major Blow To Alshabab As Senior Commander Defects To Somalia National Army Earlier Today

The al-Qaeda linked terrorist militia alshabab has suffered heavy casualties of late thanks to efforts from Somalia national army in collaboration with Kenya defence force and AMISOM forces.

This however does not mean that the deadly insurgency has completely been neuralised. In Somalia, the group continues to carry out sporadic attacks on civilians and peacekeeping forces. Usually the militants make use of radicalised suicide bombers or improvised explosive devises popularly known as IEDs.

The recent decline of this terrorist group continued today after a senior alshabab commander identified as Mohamed Kulow Ali defected to serve in the Somalia National Army.

He was in charge of alshabab's operations in the southern region of Bakol area. A picture from Garowe online showed the commander fully dressed up in military uniforms while beside him was a cache of weapons he's believed to have been carrying.

Following the move, more militants are expected to switch sides as he was considered an influential figure in the group.
