"Happy Utamanduni Day" Reason Why Kenyans Celebrate Utamanduni Day

Today it's a great day for Kenyans as we get together for the Utamanduni Day celebration. It's a day that according to the constitution, is set to remind us of the diversified cultural backgrounds among Kenyans. We're Africans and our culture matters a lot especially in building unity. Some of it has already been drained by western revolution but we still have strong foundation left. The archaic ones have already been eradicated by the government, leaving the positive and favourable ones.

To honor our cultural backgrounds, the government opted to change 10th October to be Utamanduni day though back then we used to call it Moi day. This is meant to promote unity, national integration and economic progress of our country. We have rich African culture like traditional dance, herbalists, foods, attires and taboos. On the other side as we celebrate we still have to embrace gender equality. The ways of living such as FGM, early/forced marriages, denial of education rights to girls should be totally done away with.

Let's hold our arms together and avoid cultural based differences. Understanding the significance of this day will make us move forward for the good of our nation.
