Christmas Day: Origin, Facts and Myths You Should Know

Christmas day is a university holiday celebration in which Christians celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ. The precise origin of choosing 25 December as the birthday of Jesus is unknown because there are no clues or evidence in the Bible indicating that day to be the birthday of the Savior Jesus Christ. Sextus Julius Africanus first identified the date for Christmas celebration in the year 221 and then the date became universally accepted.

The early Christian community especially the Fathers criticized the date citing that celebration of birthdays was not considered important and only death days of the Christian martyrs were worth commemoration.

The popular activities that began to be practised during the Christmas day include; decorating Christmas tress with candles and flowers, attending church and praising God, sharing meals with family, relatives and friends and also waiting for Santa Claus to arrive.
