Reason Why Today Is A Public Holiday In Kenya

Today, Wednesday 20th, October 2021, is a public holiday in Kenya, being a public holiday, therefore all Kenyans in government offices are home as there is no work today, also there ar no learning activities taking place today.Mashujaa Day, also known as Heroes' Day, the term Mashujaa is a Swahili word, it is called heroes in English, this is a national day in Kenya, which is observed on 20 October every year as a public holiday.

It is declared a public holiday in Kenya so as to collectively honour all those who contributed towards the struggle for Kenya's independence or positively contributed in the post independence Kenya.Drawing from reliable source, the holiday was first observed in 1958 majorly by activists, but quickly grew and was seen as a success by 1959. After Kenya gained independence in 1963, this holidays was initially referred to as Kenyatta Day but laterall changer to Mashujaa Day.
