Usually uric acid dissolves in your blood. It passes through the kidney and out of the body in urine. In some cases, uric acid build up and form crystals in your joints, which is usually very painful.
These crystals can also cause kidney stones.
Gout first attacks the big toe. It can also attack ankles, heels, knees,wrists, elbows, and fingers.
Initially, attacks improves with days. Eventually, the attacks last longer.
Risk factors for developing gout arthritis
• Male gender
• If you're obese or overweight.
• Positive family history of gout.
• Excessive consumption of alcohol
• If you eat foods with excess purines such as roasted meat.
Management of gout is majorly through lifestyle changes.
