Huduma Day. Good News to Kenyans as CS Matiang'I Declare This Day a Public Holiday.

Interior Cabinet Secretay Dr Fred Matiang'i Wednesday, October 6, announced Monday, October 11, will be a public holiday.

In a statement, Matiang'i said that since the public holiday falls on Sunday, October 10, the celebration will be observed on Monday in accordance with the Public Holidays Act.

The day was traditionally marked as Moi Day until 2003 when President Mwai Kibaki's administration stopped marking the holiday.

The 2010 constitution later dropped Moi Day as a national holiday. However, in 2017, the High Court ruled October 10, remained a holiday unless the Public Holidays Act was repealed.

Matiang'i later noted that the day would be observed as Huduma Day

The renaming of the national holiday was in line with former President Daniel Arap Moi's desire that the day should be commemorated as a day of service and volunteerism.

In 2020, the day was observed through national prayers that highlighted service and volunteerism to the community.
