A Wajir County Chief was given a 40-year prison term for repeatedly raping an 18 year old girl and posting pictures of her in her underwear online.
Chief Kalimoi Shale, the defendant was also fined Ksh. 500,000 which he must pay as compensation to the victim.
The chief allegedly forced the girl to agree to an out of court settlement after committing the heinous acts according to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
“Chief Kalimoi Shale of Wajir was found guilty of raping an 18-year-old girl on multiple occasions and using his position to force her to accept an out-of-court settlement through Maslaha, a cultural conflict resolution model common in the North Eastern Kenya,” read the stated the ODPP.
The administrator received two 20 year prison terms: 20 years for rape and 20 years for improperly disseminating pornographic or intimate images. The two sentences will be executed simultaneously, according to the ODPP.
