When Martha Koome was announced the Chief Justice, it was great joy to many Kenyans. She received many congratulatory messages for being the first female Chief Justice not only in Kenya but also in East Africa. Even as she was grateful for such a great position, she had some serious tasks to perform.
Some of those tasks included, to ensure that the independence of judiciary is uphold and also to ensure that there is justice to all. CJ Koome has started to establish her legacy by coming up with new tactics that will ensure that the delivery of justice is efficient.
She first came up with the bottom top approach which dictates that the legal experience of judicial officers at the Supreme Court should be same as that of those in lower courts.This could enhance more consultation between them. Today, she has requested that they should allow new innovations that will improve efficiency.This is by establishment of commercial courts and Anti-corruption and economic courts that will adopt night shifts from 5:00 pm and 8:00 am.
