NEWS IN: Court of Appeal Dismisses Gov't Application to Import GMO Foodstuffs in the Country

Kenya Kwanza's government has been dealt with a fresh hurdle following the latest high court ruling on the importation of GMO foodstuffs in the country.

As relayed by a report covered on Citizen TV Kenya, the government had made an application to import Genetically Modified Foodstuffs in the country despite being opposed by the opposition.

The ruling therefore means Ruto's government won't be able to import GMO foodstuffs in the country months after vowing to do so in order to adress food shortages in some parts of the country.

" Court of Appeal three-judge bench dismisses gov't application to allow importation of GMO food in the country, says case lacks merit", the report intimates.

Commenting on the issue, the former prime minister Raila Odinga and co-principals claimed GMO foodstuffs are harmful for human consumption and therefore shouldn't be allowed in the country.

However defending government's move, president William Ruto and Trade CS Moses Kuria cited GMO foodstuffs have been in use by several countries refuting claims that theyvare harmful for human consumption.

It should be noted that Kenyan government was in agreement with USA over the importation of GMO maize and other foodstuffs.

Lastly in your opinion, do you think the court of appeal has made the right decision by dismissing the application?
