Lawyer Alice Yano Shines in Her Introduction For The CJ Interviews

The search for Kenya's next Chief Justice entered day ten today. Already nine applicants have been interviewed so far. They include; Justice Chitembwe Juma, Prof Patricia Mbote, Lady Justice Martha Koome, Justice Marete Njagi, Philip Murgor, Justice Nduma Nderi, Senior Counsel Fred Ngatia, Prof Moni Wekesa and Justice William Ouko.

Today, Lawyer Alice Jepkoech Yano is facing the Judicial Service Commission(JSC). Yano who is 53 years old is the youngest candidate to apply for CJ job. On her introduction part she said that it is true she is young among her peers but not young in experience.She indicated that leadership was manifested in her when she was waiting to join us at the age of 21 in 1989 when she became the a principal of a school that she started.

The Chief Justice seat was left vacant after Justice David Maraga attained the mandatory retirement age of 70.

The CJ is formally appointed by the President but is selected by the Judicial Service Commission in a competitive process and interviews.
