KENYA has a new Chief justice following the appointment of Lady Justice Martha Koome by President Uhuru Kenyatta. She underwent vetting by parliament and was recommended for appointment after vigorous interviews conducted by JSC. She becomes the first female Chief Justice in Kenya and takes over from Rtd Chief Justice David Maraga. But how well do you know the new chief justice?
She was born in 1960 in Meru County.
She began practicing law as an advocate in 1988.
She served as a council member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) between 1993 to 1996.
She joined the judiciary in 2003 and was appointed to the Court of Appeal in 2012.
She holds an LL. M in Public International Law from the University of London.
She is married and is a mother of 3.
