Azimio Forced To Move to Court Ahead of Monday Protests

The Orange Democratic Movement Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has revealed that they were forced to move to court ahead of their planned Monday protests. Speaking to Citizen Digital, Sifuna explained that they sought guidelines in accordance with the constitution and that is why they were required to head to court before the demonstrations.

"We had to seek guidelines in accordance with the Constitution, and that is why we had to go to court before we hold the demonstrations," Sifuna stated.

According to Sifuna, the court has already provided them with the blueprint on how to successfully undertake the protests under article 27. The Senator argued that the law provides an avenue where an individual planning to hold protests can make requests to the state on what they need, provided they are peaceful.

Sifuna further revealed that they would brief the nation about their preparedness for the rally later today. As he concluded, Sifuna affirmed that they were not threatened by the consequences that would emerge from the demonstrations. In the same vein, the opposition has now revealed plans to write to the Nairobi Governor Evans Sakaja to provide facilities such as clean public toilets and water points that will accommodate the protestors. It remains to be seen whether the Governor will heed the opposition's call for support.
