Today 16th March 2021, the unsatisfied residents of Voi in Taita Taveta county have demonstrated earlier on during the day in Voi town demanding for good health services in Moi Hospital. There has been some differences between the County Government of Taita Taveta and the Health workers in terms of payment of salaries. Since the commencement of a strike a month ago, there has been a shortage of health workers for over a month now. The strike of the health workers has hindered the provision of good and adequate health services in the town.
The residents are claiming to lack good health services due to less health workers yet they pay tax every now and then. Most of the residents are urging the national government to intervene in order to find a lasting solution for the problem. This might lead to the end of the strike and health workers reporting back to work. Hence good health services shall be restored in Voi.
In a statement of one of the furious resident:
"Demonstration is the only language that the government can understand well. That is why is we have called upon citizens to come together because the state of our hospital is bad and it's due to laziness in the hospital itself. We've been told that workers have been sacked; some doctors, clinical officers, nurses and we don't know their fate up to the moment. And we know that those were the people who we offering medical services to the inhabitants of Voi."
The residents lamented over the insufficiency of medicine, doctors, nurses, clinical officers and wondered where they were. They claimed that the County Government of Taita Taveta claims to have employed more health worker staffs in the hospital but the situation is totally contradicting. Some patients have to seek high level medication in other hospitals.
