Martha Koome made history as the first female chief Justice after she was selected by the judiciary service commission to succeed former CJ David Marsha.
Her name will be presented to Uhuru Kenyatta before being taken to parliament for vetting.
The Court of Appeal Judge was declared the winner by JSC chairperson in briefing to the press on Tuesday.
Koome's appointment caught very many people by surprise as she defeated well renowned legal minds such as Said Chitembwe, Prof Patricia Mbote, Justice Marete Njagi, Philip Murgor, Justice Nduma Nderi, Fred Ngatia, Justice William Ouko, Dr Wekesa Moni and Alice Yano.
Judge Martha Koome was announced a few moments after the court of Appeal turned down a lower court ruling which prevented JSC from announcing the next chief Justice.
Judge Koome was appointed to the Bar as an Advocate of the High Court in 1986 and worked as a legal associate at Mathenge and Muchemi Advocates until 1993, when she started her own law company and became the managing partner until 2003.
During the interview, Koome promised introduce a case management system that will help them to deal with many case loads.
