CJ Koome Sends This Message To Her Rival Who Has Bagged A Lucrative Job At The UN

Chief Justice Martha Koome in a statement released on Sunday, August 1 2021 congratulated Prof Patricia Mbote and confirmed she was looking forward to working with her after she was appointed as the director of the law division at the United Nations Environment programme.

Mbote, was one of the candidates that had expressed her interest to be the next chief justice of the Republic of Kenya after the retirement of the then CJ Maraga and appeared before the panel for an interview although it was Koome who carried the day.

Koome expressed her belief in Mbote stating that she believed her wealth of experience in matters law will be an invaluable asset in her stay with the United Nations and claimed that the country stood to benefit from this latest appointment.

"Congratulations Prof Patricia Kameri-Mbote on your appointment as Director of the Law Division at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The Judiciary remains open to engage with you and UNEP on capacity building of the Judiciary & Court User Committees concerning local and international environmental law issues." Koome stated.

Mbote will now be the highest-ranking Kenyan in the organisation and is remembered during the interviews when she failed to fill her husband's wealth declaration and staunchly defended her stance.
