“Don't Tell Me What To Do" Haji's Letter Reads As Push To Have Mithika Linturi's Charged Fails

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has told the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to stop questioning his office over the manner it is handling the Meru Senator Mithika Linturi's case.

In a letter written by Haji addressed to the NCIC, Mr. Haji faulted the NCIC for overstepping its mandate after the NCIC faulted the Haji's decision to drop charges against Meru Senator Mithika Linturi who had been accused of hate speech.

Haji in the letter said the NCIC was attempting to interfere with its independence by influencing its decisions. The Director of Public Prosecution refuted claims that NCIC that the withdrawal was a plot to help Linturi evade justice.

The DDP maintained that it is the responsibility of the prosecution counsel to consider the evidence presented, apply all the necessary tools and decide whether or not to charge the suspect.

Haji insisted that the prosecution counsel in the case acted under the authority of his office.
