How Kenyan Woman Attempted To Fly To Canada Using Fake Documents

At the Milimani Law Court is Diana Moraa.

A lady who made an illegal attempt to enter Canada has been fined Sh1 million.

If she doesn't increase the fine, Diannah Moraa Nyaigoti will be imprisoned for 21 months

Senior principle magistrate Bernard Ochoi of the Milimani Law Courts pronounced the punishment, noting that "many persons have utilized trickery to travel abroad and whenever they find issues they turn to Kenyan Embassies in those countries they sneaked to for assistance."

Ochoi suggested severe sanctions for people who "leave the country using fake documents."

Ms. Nyaigoti admitted using a phony letter dated October 11, 2022, from the Canadian High Commission, which confirmed "the loss of her Canadian Resident Card Number 6139-0420," on three counts.

The fourth accusation was that Ms. Nyaigoti lied to Immigration Officer Rebecca Toto at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by stating that her Canadian Resident Permit (CRP) Number 6139-0420 was lost, which was a false statement she was aware of.

Informing the magistrate that the defendant planned to fly from Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Addis Abeba and then on to Canada, prosecutor James Machira.

According to Machira, an immigration officer at JKIA noticed the discrepancy in the letter that was handed out at the departure location.

It was revealed that the letter dated October 11, 2022 about the lost CRP was a fake after Ms. Toto double-checked with the pertinent authorities at the foreign mission.

Ms. Nyaigoti apologized, saying she had been deceived, and begged for forgiveness.

The magistrate, who handed down the punishment, claimed that Kenyans who leave the country illegally protest when faced with pressing challenges that violate their fundamental rights.

The magistrate charged the accused with three forgery counts and ordered her to pay Sh900,000 in fines or serve 18 months in jail; for deceiving Ms. Toto, she must pay Sh100,000 or undergo three months of house arrest.

The sentences will flow one after the other.
