The judicial service comission has officially announced that after vetting the contestants for the chief justice position, the name of Lady Justice Martha Koome has been submitted to the president Uhuru Kenyatta for approval.
The current position of the Lady Justice justice Martha Koome is the Judge of the court of appeal (Nairobi)
She has served thirty three years in the legal profession.
She was among the ten contestants who had interest in replacing the formerly retired Chief justice Maraga. The chief justice position is being temporarily held by Philomena Mwilu. Honourable lady justice Koome Martha Karambu described herself as a human rights defender and a gender rights advocate.
Among the contestant's cleared for interviews were: justice Said Chitembwe, Prof. Patricia Mbote, Justice Martha Koome, Justice Marete Njagi, Philip Murgor, Justice Nduma Nderi, Fred Ngatia, Justice William Ouko, Prof. Wekesa Moni and Alice Yano.
After the scheduled interviews were successful carried out, the panel conducting the interviews has chosen Lady Justice Martha Koome as the incoming chief justice.
Many have sent their congratulations to lady justice Martha Koome who will now be the new chief justice of Kenya and the first female chief justice.
