CJ Koome Makes Major Announcement, Gives Fresh Directives To Judiciary In Her New Year Message

Chief Justice Martha Koome has given fresh directives to the Judiciary. In her new year message the President of the Supreme Court of Kenya has announced that trial periods in Kenyan courts should not exceed three months. She stated that she will be leading fellow officers to make sure that all cases of appeals are heard and determined in one year. Chief Justice Martha Koome has said that she will be committed to make sure that backlogs of the cases in the courts are handled very fast and judgements made on them. She noted that Kenyans have suffered in the hands of judges and magistrates who delay in giving rulings.

Martha Koome also revealed that actions would be taken to track every case file and deliver justice to vulnerable members of the society. Martha Koome said that the, "Judiciary’s infrastructural and digitization agenda remains on track adding that the continued roll-out of the Small Claims Courts and the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Courts will facilitate the delivery of justice for vulnerable groups."
