Close Allies of the two handshake partners and supporters of the BBI perceive that if the BBI process is successfully appealed, then Ruto and his troop stands to lose politically. But why do I feel that no matter the outcome in the court of appeal, Ruto stands to win big as far as his 2022 ambition is concerned.
First, in case the high court ruling is appealed at the appellate court, then the BBI ragae will continue and Kenyans will go to the referendum. If majority of Kenyans vote for the constitutional amendment, then there will be more positions in the executive for Ruto to share in his camp. Also, the BBI gives more constituencies in Dp's strongholds compared to Raila's meaning more resources.
If he vies for presidency under the new constitution in 2022 and loses by finishing second, following the BBI ragae setbacks, he will still be in government as the official opposition leader, receiving a salary and an office.
Secondly, if the high court ruling stands in the court of appeal, then Ruto will gain big politically since he has been against the constitutional amendment process since its onset. Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta will be dealt a huge blow since they have invested most of their time and public resources in the BBI.
