Protests Spark At Kabete After Police Officer Opened Firearms Killing Himself And 6 Others

Residents from Kabete region are furious and mourning death of 7 people who have lost their lives during the morning hours of Tuesday 7, December 2021. Sources reveal that, a police officer by the name Benson Imbatu who is attached to Kabete Police station, arrived home on Tuesday morning with AK47 gun and after a short while, quarrels erupted between him and his wife Catol Imbatu. The disagreement made Cop Benson to shoot his wife killing her on the spot.

Neighbors and boda boda operators who operate in that region on hearing the gunfire, they decided to rush into the scene to see what was happening since there was also flames of fire emanating from the same apartment. However Benson Imbatu the police officer, walked out of the building opening his riffle to the people outside from different directions. He hence shot and killed five (5) people who included two boda boda operators and three neighbors. Two more people also received bullets and are now nursing serious injuries from Kenyatta National Hospital. After the incident, police were called to the scene too and when they arrived Imbatu went into the house and shot himself from the neck.

Following the tragic killing later in the day, residents have furiously invanted Kabete police station demanding answers to what has been happening with the officer who caused the killing. Angry locals lit tires at the scene and along the Thiong'o Road asking for clarifications of the incident.

Responding to the protesting locals, Dagorreti Police Commander Francis Wahome said that they were not aware of the motive of the diceased officer but the couple stayed alone in the Heights Apartment. "We do not know the motive of the incident but we have lost seven people including the officer who died by suicide,” Dagorreti boss stated. However there were rumours that the diceased officer had some mental disorders. “We have been told the officer had mental issues. Why was he at work?” one of the protesting residents questioned Dagorreti Boss.
