Setback For The 6 Judges Rejected by President Kenyatta After Latest Court Ruling

President Uhuru Kenyatta has received a temporary lifeline after the Court of appeal suspended the order which directed him to swear in the 6 judges he had rejected in two weeks.

Justices Roselyn Nambuye, Wanjiru Karanja and Imaana Laibuta gave the orders pending a ruling on the matter on November 19.

The Head of state moved to the Court of appeal to challenge the High court order that he swears in the Judges, saying the move will put his office and that of the chief justice in an awkward position.

“The judgment is clearly an attempt to rewrite or otherwise amend the Constitution in a manner not contemplated under Chapter 16 of the Constitution," the president says through his lawyer.

In June, President Uhuru Kenyatta refused to appoint the Judges, citing integrity issues amid protests from a section of Kenyans and top legal practitioners in the country.

The 6 judges Kenyatta refused to appoint are Judge Joel Ngugi, Judge George Odunga, Judge Aggrey Muchelule , Judge Weldon Korir ,Judge Judith Omange and Judge Evans Makori.
