RIP, Chaos Erupts As Another Secondary Student Dies Over The Following Sad Happening

According to the nation news dated 26th August 2021, chaos and riots erupted in Matunda in Likuyani Sub-county yesterday. This came after the angry residents barricaded a section of the Kitale-Eldoret road to protest against the death of their 17-year-old boy who was knocked down by a speeding vehicle.

The boy who was knocked was a Form Two student at Matunda Secondary. According to the reports, the boy was cycling to school when he was run over by a speeding matatu at the Furfurral trading centre at around 6.30am. The Uasin Gishu County police Commander Ayub Ali, who confirmed the incident, said that the matatu was overtaking another vehicle when it knocked the boy down.

“The vehicle then veered off the road and overturned, landing on its side. The victim died on the spot,” Mr Ali said.

The angry residents vandalised the vehicle and lit fires on the road during the protest. They demanded for an action against the matatu sacco which caused the death of the boy. The body of the deceased was taken to the Kitale County Refferal Hospital mortuary awaiting for postmortem while the vehicle and victim’s bicycle were towed to Matunda Police Station.
