Protests in Kayole After Police Allegedly Kill Man During Curfew Hours

Kayole residents on early Thursday August 19th, morning, started protests while accusing police on patrol on Wednesday night for killing a 38-year-old man for flouting covid-19 containment measures.

The man identified as John Kiiru, had hailed a boda-boda and is said to have been cornered and attacked by police officers, the boda-boda rider however managed to escape.

Kiiru contacted his wife at midnight and informed her that cops had seriously assaulted him.

The victims body was found on Thursday morning lying at the assault site.

The angry residents took to the streets to protest and barricade roads.

This is not the first time police officers are using their power by force, earlier this week Kenyans protested on social media over the death of two Embu, Kianjokama brothers who were assaulted by the police and died.

Attempt by the police officers to take Kiiru's body from the scene were met with opposition from residents.
