Today, the Executive and the Judiciary leaders were in speed to make sure that they launch various projects that will help to serve Kenyans well. As president William Ruto was launching Hustler Fund in Nairobi, Chief Justice Martha Koome launched the National Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) Court Users Committee (CUC) at the Shanzu Law Courts this afternoon. She took to social media to say that according to the WHO, 1 in 3 women is at risk of SGBV in Kenya, while 18 per cent of young boys are at risk. That in a large part, this is because of the impunity of perpetrators heightened by a history of a low number of successful prosecutions.
The SGBV Courts and the bespoke CUCs are the justice sector response to the unacceptable state of affairs and, if well implemented, will certainly lead to enhanced access to justice for the victims and survivors of SGBV.
