Today on Wednesday 19 May, Justice Martha Koome has been approved by the National Assembly as the next Chief Justice. Justice Martha Koome will be the 15th Chief Justice and the first female Chief Justice since Kenya become an independent country.

In the past few weeks, Martha Koome underwent a lot of questioning to ascertain her suitability as the next Chief Justice of Kenya to take over from Chief Justice Maraga. Her name has been forwarded to the President awaiting her swearing in as the next head of Judiciary.

Justice Martha Koome was born in Kithiu Village in Miragamieru in Meru county. She has a 33 year experience in legal practice with which a significant portion of those years has been in public service as a defender of human rights.

With Martha Koome having been practicing law for such a long time, we believe she will produce the best Chief Justice in Kenya's history.
