Warning Message From Kenya Chief Justice Martha Koome On Corruption In Kenya

Focusing on citizen TV interview with Kenya chief Justice Martha Koome,She has expressed her confidence on delivering to her best level on fighting corruption.

Chief Justice Martha Koome defends the independence of the Judiciary. CJ says matters concerning judges should be handled by the JSC. CJ Koome says clearance of backlog among her top priorities.

Corruption is endemic in Kenya, it is a big problem. Corruption is unacceptable and we as judges and magistrates are supposed to deal with it firmly according to the law” - Chief Justice Martha Koome.

Judiciary have had problems with the laws regarding corruption and it has been historical. there has always been a challenge with legislation that is beyond the Judiciary because they work with what they have, judiciary deal with the laws that are already in place”

Judiciary department must defend the integrity of the Judiciary, the integrity of this judge who is supposed to carry the mandate of the the same time no judge is above the law, if one have committed an offense that is known to the law you must be brought to account.

We cannot focus on transforming the Judiciary alone we also have to transform the society by ensuring access to justice and really looking at the social context under which we operate…” - Chief Justice Martha Koome
