As the lawyers for Raila and Ruto continued to fight in the Supreme Court, all Kenyans were anxiously waiting for the Supreme Court's decision.
Today is the third day of the Presidential Election Petition, and both the Petitioners and Respondents are supposed to make their rejoinders. The ruling is expected to be made on September 5th.
Yesterday, the Ruto team, led by Senior Counsel Fred Ngatia, did something very brave: they gave the supreme court judges 30 minutes of their time, which was a surprise. The Azimio team used up all of their time, but the senior Counsel gave some of his time to the judges and told them they could ask any question if they needed more information.
In his closing remarks, Senior Counsel Fred Ngatia said, "I would like to give 30 minutes of our time to this court because we are patriotic enough to know that this never-ending circle of litigation is not really in the best interest of this country."
The move has continued to get mixed reactions, with some saying it was smart and others saying it was because they didn't have enough evidence.
Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Martha Koome was very thankful for the donated time and said so. In her answer, the CJ said that she was very thankful that they had given their time, and she even told the court that most of their work starts after court sessions are over, when they have to sit and think about things.
