Kenyan Court of Appeal Judge, Justice Joel Ngugi who was among the High Judges that Uhuru Kenyatta failed to promote to the Appellate Court has been crowned the Jurist of the Year by the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ).
Joel Ngugi who was also among the judges who declared the famous BBI Unconstitutional, null and void while issuing his acceptance speech said that the award is meant the many faceless Kenyans who, daily, fight for the Kenyan Constitution and Constitutionalism.
This yearly award always seeks to recognize and acknowledge jurists who have promoted the rule of law in Kenya during the year
Uhuru Kenyatta, had left them out while appointing 34 others to the Court of Appeal. Among those who were rejected by Uhuru include Ngugi, Aggrey Muchelule, George Odunga and Weldon Korir among others. However the six were quickly appointed by Ruto days after taking over from Uhuru.
