Former Nairobi City County governor is risking a three-year jail term if at all he will fail to appear before the judicial service commission. He may as well be fined an amount not exceeding 1 million or both.
The judicial service commission of Kenya gave the former Nairobi governor 7 days to appear before its committee. The reason behind his sermon was to shed more light on the matter against one of the judges who is accused of being corrupt.
The judges’ employer gave Mr Sonko seven days to appear before the JSC and record a statement over the matter. The JSC Act states that it is an offence for one to disobey an order made by the commission or summons of a committee to give such evidence.
Two petitions have since been filed seeking the removal of Justice Chitembwe as a judge for gross misconduct over allegations of bribery.
This simply means that should the former Nairobi governor fail to appear before the judicial service commission before the of 7 days he will be heading to jail.
