Lady Justice Martha Koome made history on Tuesday when her name was nominated and forwarded by the Judicial Service Commission to the president for consideration as the next Chief Justice of Kenya, taking over from retired CJ David Maraga.
Her impending appointment will make history as the first female head of one of the three arms of government, the Judiciary. Since independence, all the 3 arms of government have been headed by male Kenyans.
As per Salaries and Renumaration Commission, a Chief Justice is paid a basic salary of Kshs 990,000. This, added with allowances will see her take home an average of Kshs 1.3 Million per month.
Other benefits accorded to the CJ include official residence in Runda, Medical cover worth Kshs 10 Million for inpatient services and Kshs 300,000 outpatient services. The cover will also cater for the spouse, and up to four children under the age of 25.
Chief Justice Koome will also get an official car, top notch security and road clearance privileges meaning she will not have to go through traffic jam again.
JKLMEDIA wishes CJ Martha Koome all the best as she serves the great nation of Kenya and its people.
