According to the law, the names were supposed to be revealed on November 18 but JSC has kept silent.
On March 24, 2022, JSC published 20 vacancies for high court judges in an effort to solve the severe shortage and hasten case hearing and decision-making.
In accordance with Chapter 10 of the Kenyan Constitution (2010) the Chief Justice shall publish a Gazette notice informing the public that a high court judge vacancy has arisen within 14 days.
The JSC is also obligated to post a notice on its own website notify the Kenyan Bar Association and any other relevant professional bodies of lawyers and disseminate the notice in any other manner deemed necessary.
JSC selected 104 qualified candidates after adhering to the aforementioned constitutional conditions.
Derrick Kuto president of the Kenya Magistrate and Judges Association, Emily Ominde, chief magistrate of the anti-corruption court, Douglas Ogoti, Lawrence Mugambi and Elizabeth Juma were among the notable contenders that made the short list.
Among the notable candidates shortlisted were Chief Magistrates Francis Andayi and magistrates Achieng' Pamela, Adika Harrison Musa Sajide, Ambasi Lucy Njeri and Ameyo Edna Asachi Nyaloti.
