A Lawyer and Advocate who publicly Rejected Appointment by the President.
Mr. Mordecai Msiska,a veteran lawyer and advocate from Malawi surprised the country when he publicly turned down the appointment made by the president. The new president of the country Mr.Lazarus Chakwera in 202 had offered the lawyer the position of new Minister of Justice but he turned the offer down saying it will be tantamount to cronyism.
Cronyism is defined as “special treatment and preference given to friends or colleagues, especially in politics.”
The lawyer is said to have represented the president in the court over election petitions where the Court cancelled the rigged elections that led to his victory. As a sign of appreciation and giving back the hand, the president decided to make him a minister in the Ministry of Justice. However, the lawyer said it that if he accept the appointment,it would seem like a reward for helping the President win the court case.
This decision sparked different reactions in African Social Media Communities with many praising the lawyer for being prudent.
