Martha Koome Nominated as Chief Justice By JSC

The Judicial service commission (JSC) has appointed Judge lady Martha Koome of the high court as the new chief justice replacing the retired David Kenani Maraga who went out of office since January this year

Martha Koome was selected by the commission and her name forwarded to president Uhuru Kenyatta for consideration. Uhuru will present the name before the Members of Parliament committee for legal justice to undergo vetting. After completion the head of state will officially declare her as Chief Justice

Koome has worked for 33 years under legal profession.She started exercising her profession since 2003 as human rights defender.

The other candidates who interviewed for the position included Justice Said Juma Chitembwe, Prof. Patricia Mbote, Philip Murgor, Lawyer Fredrick Ngatia, Justice Marete Njagi, Justice Matthews Nduma Nderi, Justice William Ouko, Prof. Moni Wekesa and Ms. Alice Yano

However several leaders including senator Millicent Omanga and Dr. Boni Khalwale have taken to their social media platforms to applaud Martha Koome
