Students and Parents Riot Following a Student's Death After an Alleged Conflict With His Teacher

Parents and students of Kalenjuok Primary School, located in Alego area of ​​Siaya County stormed the school in a protest after one of the students died following an alleged conflict with his teacher.

Evans Onyango, a seventh-grade student, reportedly committed suicide shortly after he was heard complaining about repeated beatings by one of his teachers.

The boy reportedly died while receiving treatment at the Siaya County Referral Hospital after family members found him hanging from a tree in their home.

The sister of the deceased, Millicent Onyango said that her brother came home complaining that there was a teacher who was in the habit of beating her regularly. He said he was tired of the teacher's action.

Millicent left home, leaving her brother in distress and later their nephew saw him hanging from a tree.

When the news reached the school in morning, angry students and parents joined a protest against the teacher who allegedly pushed the student to the point of committing suicide.
