CJ Martha Koome Inform Lawyers Agaisnt The BBI To Prepare for Tough Battle, Tells What Will Happen

The Supreme Court Judges led by Chief Justice Martha Koome have challenged Lawyers against or those supporting the Building Bridges Initiative to come well equipped, disclosing what will happen.

According to the judges, they have informed that what should be understood is that the period of stay in listening to the case on the BBI from opposers and supporters side will be as short as possible, giving each lawyer from either side 45 minutes.

However, CJ Koome and other Supreme Court Judges have informed that those against the Building Bridges Initiative and even to those who support the bill on constitutional amendments should be ready to defend themselves more on the Basic Structure Doctrine stating categorically that they should be able to explain whether it is applicable in Kenya.

"The Supreme Court judges said they decided to come up with seven issues on which they will allow parties to file their submissions in support or against. Key among them is the Basic Structure Doctrine and whether it is applicable in Kenya," read the report.

It has been established that another issue that will be key on the debate will be the need of the Judges against the BBI to explain the decision of the court to rule that the President does not have the authority to initiate changes to the Constitution.
