The Sentencing Of Former LRA Commander Dominic Ongwen Could Be A Warning To Kenyans (Opinion)

Earlier today, the International Criminal Court (ICC), sentenced the former LRA Commander, Dominic Ongwen to 25 years of imprisonment. Mr. Ongwen was accused of of 61 criminal offenses that include the mass killing of innocent people in the Northern Uganda and he is said to be one of the most brutal members of the LRA.

His sentence could be a warning to Kenyans by the International Criminal Court because there are still Kenyans who have pending cases in the ICC. A few days ago, the head of prosecution in the ICC, Fatou Bom Bensouda, opened a new case against the Kenya Deputy President, William Samoei Ruto. According to Bensouda, William Ruto was involved in bribing witnesses who could testify against him and journalist Joshua Arap Sang in the court following the 2007 general elections post violence.

The sentencing of Dominic Ongwen could be a warning to Kenyans as this means that anybody can be sentenced in the ICC if find guilty.
