Boda boda riders in Konoin sub county, have protested against what they term as police brutality during the enforcement of Covid-19 directives.

They tried to block Silibwet-Litein road but they were immediately disperse by anti riot police officers from Konoin police station

Some who spoke to The Opera News said they are not even allowed to carry cargo, more than one pillion passengers hence occasioning them great loss.

Following the outbreak of coronavirus disease, all motorcycles in the county are supposed to observe Covid-19 protocols and other traffic rules.

But the riders said they are being harassed by police officers, public health officers and local administration including chiefs from Konoin who of late have been mounting road blocks at various routes, who sometimes extort money from them.

Cyclist, Joseph Kipyator said the police have stopped them from carrying luggage and taking the sick to hospital, something they are unhappy with.

“When arrested for flouting the rules, we are not allowed to even explain and are instead our motorcycles confiscated,” Kipyator said.

Julius Korir of Litein Boda boda Association, said that the police officers in the sub county were not after saving lives but are looking for money from the cyclists. He vowed to mobilize Boda boda riders to fight back if nothing changes.

For the last two weeks in Konoin sub county, multi agency road blocks have been mounted at various parts to nabbed to flouting ministry of health protocols on containment of Covid-19.
