“Fresh War” Emerge in Laikipia As Farmers and Herders Clash Over Land

Residents of Rumuruti town in Laikipia county today paralyzed all activities in town in a protest against herders.

According to protesters, The heards forcefully graze their animals in their farms because they know are heavyly armed.

Paul Githinji who spoke to Nation Media said, they have been watching carelessly hundreds of animals grazed in their maize farm. To them, a word could have attracted brutal attack.

Githinji further alleged the herders are armed with sophisticated firearms including traditional weapons like arrows.

“They are doing this with impunity and they are armed with bows and arrows. Some even have guns. Before they infiltrate this area and cause the chaos they are causing in Ol Moran, we have to chase them away,” a resident, Paul Githinji, told Nation Media.

Laikipia was recently in limelight for banditry attack. The event moved schools closed and homes torched down as families flee town for their dear lives.

The interior CS Fred Matiang'i has since deployed security force in the region.
