
The government of Murang'a through county veterinary services has identified the main cause of foot and mouth viral disease outbreak. William Mwangi who is the director said that disease that is characterised by wounds in livestock mouth and feet was brought by infected livestock from other counties who seek pasture refugee in the county.In a speech seen by People Daily ,the director noted that the disease has no cure but vaccination is a good remedy. Foot and mouth infection can be transmitted to humans through infected livestock products such as milk and meat.

Following the outbreak , he noted that the county has started vaccination programme, starting with severely affected Mathioya and Gatanga subcounties.Mwangi also revealed that they had informed farmers to be aware of the outbreak. To make sure the programme is fruitful , Mwangi said they were involving both the government and private veterinary officers in conducting door to door vaccination program.
