The government has confirmed outbreak of cholera in Homa Bay county. Cholera which is a bacterial disease caused by a bacteria called Vibrio cholerae is usually contacted through ingestion of dirty water and food stuffs. Major signs are symptoms of cholera include diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, dehydration and abrupt weight loss.
The outbreak of this dangerous killer disease was confirmed by the Health CEC Roselyn Omollo. Mrs Roselyn confirmed eight cholera cases in Homa Bay county. Five people were treated and discharged while three others were admitted at Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The five patients who were discharged were members of the same family. The outbreak of cholera in Homa Bay county comes barely a two weeks after a similar case was reported from Kiambu county where scores were hospitalized due to cholera outbreak.

The Health CEC Roselyn Omollo said that people who experience any sign of cholera should seek for immediate medical attention in a nearby health facility or dispensary.
